NPR’s Book Concierge: Excellent book recommendations for those in pursuit of an intriguing summer read

As an avid reader, I have perused the Pulitzers, plowed my way through National Book Award winners, and eagerly devoured book suggestions from friends and family–but the most joyful and consistently intriguing reads I’ve encountered were recommended by none other than the NPR Book Concierge.

Some of my favorite summer reads of all time were found on this annually updated list, where content ranges from swashbuckling adventure tales to science writing to droolworthy cookbook suggestions (one of which led to a complete overthrow of my formerly standard American diet).

Students, families, friends, and countrymen, if you’re in pursuit of a great summer novel, this list–with its ingenious toggle feature that allows you to read a one-paragraph synopsis of each novel–almost certainly has something great in store for you. For cheaper suggestions of novels that you can buy used at a local bookshop or on Half.com, simply look at older NPR Book Concierge lists, like the following from 2015, 2014, or 2013. That’s how we frugal teachers roll.

Welcome to Ms. Livesay’s online home for English 10

Dear students,

Welcome to my new English 10 site. Here you can find links and reference materials for major assignments. All writing pieces and projects are connected to the novel we‘re reading, so to find a writing sample or other material for your class, please click on “Novels and Plays” above and choose the title of the trimester’s novel. You should be able to find what you’re looking for there; if not, see me! Not all materials will be posted here.
